Eglwys St Celynnin – St. Celynnin Church
To discover a hidden gem brings a very contented feeling to one’s heart. This was our feeling on discovering St Celynnin Church for the first time in 2013.
Celtic castles, steeped in history and legend, are among Europe’s most iconic medieval structures. Scattered across Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and parts of Brittany, these ancient fortifications were built by Celtic tribes and later by medieval rulers to defend against invaders and assert power. Often perched on rugged cliffs or surrounded by rolling green hills, Celtic castles were designed for both defense and grandeur, featuring thick stone walls, towering battlements, and sometimes moats. Many of these castles, like Edinburgh Castle in Scotland and Blarney Castle in Ireland, have become symbols of Celtic culture, blending myth and history, and serving as a window into the past. They evoke a time of kings, knights, and fierce clans, still inspiring awe and wonder today.

Wales is sometimes said to be the “castle capital of the world”. Wales had about 400 castles, of which over 100 are still standing, either as ruins or as restored buildings.
There are many tales of ghosts that roam the dark brooding fortress of Dunluce Castle (Irish Gaelic – Dún Libhse).
